New D-Series Catalysts of Low Light-Off Temperature Effectively Control Diesel Particulate Matter and Hydrocarbon Emissions
MISSISSAUGA, ON--October 21, 1997--Nett Technologies Inc. introduced new diesel catalyst formulations to be used in the Nett® line of products including diesel exhaust purifiers, catalytic mufflers, and other catalytic emission control products for diesel engines. The new D-series catalysts represent the most advanced catalyst technology designed for high reductions of diesel particulate and hydrocarbon emissions.
Diesel engines are characterized by relatively low exhaust gas temperatures. Effective catalytic emission control of hydrocarbons (HC) is, therefore, a problem in most light duty diesel applications. All emission control catalysts require high exhaust gas temperatures to perform efficiently. That problem has been resolved in the D-series Nett® catalysts by incorporating zeolite-based hydrocarbon trapping materials into the catalyst washcoat. Zeolites, known also as molecular sieves, have the ability to adsorb hydrocarbons at low temperatures and release them at high temperatures, when the catalyst operates with high efficiency. Thus, the D-series catalysts allow to extend the benefits of diesel oxidation catalysts into low temperature regions, where the conventional catalysts remain inactive.
Due to the low temperature HC activity, the D-series catalysts proved to be extremely successful in controlling diesel odor from light duty diesel engines, such as those used in forklift trucks. Hydrocarbons and their derivatives are the main source of diesel odor.
The D-series catalysts offered for heavy duty applications additionally incorporate sulfate suppressing substances to allow for effective particulate matter (PM) emission reduction even at high temperatures. Conventional oxidation catalysts generate sulfate particulates at higher exhaust temperatures and can significantly increase PM emissions from diesel engines. Due to the sulfate suppression, the Nett® D-series catalysts are also suitable for heavy-duty applications, such as wheel loaders used in construction and mining.
